Author Visit

What is it like to be an author AND illustrator? How do I come up with my characters? Where do I get my ideas? How did I learn to draw?

In my presentations, I share answers to those questions and a whole lot more. School visits get students excited about reading and inspire them to create. It is a great way to start the day.

A presentation lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, which includes a slide show, a talk, and time for questions from students. And, of course, it wouldn't be right to leave without doing a drawing or two. I normally give up to three presentations in a day, and often schools have me sign books. I am glad to meet with a small group in a classroom, or a huge group in an auditorium.

For older students--junior high and high school--I explain what it is like to be an author and an artist. I tell about the day to day reality of working with clients, publishers and art directors. Demonstrations in drawing, photoshop and book layout are also options for presentations.
